I found that just having some staircases in my inventory makes the whole mining thing WAY less stressful. Did the rest normally, and made it to 90. Anyway crafted about 5/6, went down on a good luck day, and only used staircases to skip the levels with those particular enemies I had trouble with. I went and cleared out the quarry to get loads of stone for staircases, then realised I might as well just buy it from Robin, like seriously once you're making a decent amount of money, it's worth it to take the easy route. Just resurrecting this thread quickly to say that I got to level 90! I took a few days out from playing, focussed on farming when I did but eventually went back into the mines feeling a bit more well prepared. If you feel like you have horrible luck, you could go for the katana, but I'd hate to dump 25k on a weapon and find a rainbow shard a couple days later. Depends if you want to wait for a rainbow shard or not, to get your first one. The Lava Katana is a toss-up, though: it's slightly better than the obsidian edge, but yet is outclassed by the galaxy weapons.
So, if you do it that way, you can save yourself a good 50k+ in just skipping the swords sold at the shop.

You can start working on said insect head weapon from almost the very beginning, and while 500 insects sounds like a lot, it really isn't because you will find 5 and 10 at a time and they add up fast.Īs an added bonus, you can turn all that bug meat into Fishing Bait if you've gotten a level or two on Fishing, so you can easily have 800+ bait for free by the time you're done with the weapon quest. Early on, you can farm the insect head which is a good enough weapon to take you clear to Floor 90 (if you rush the previous 20 floors with bombs). Eh, to be honest there's a point where buying a new sword is a waste of money.
